Business Burglary
January 17, 2024
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a business burglary case.
On 01/17/24 at 0314 hours, a burglary occurred at Money Pro Pawn located at 4555 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.
The front door was shattered, and three glass displays were broken into, possibly with hammers. One display was located on the west side of the business which contained jewelry, and the other two were near the rear wall and contained firearms and knives.
Video surveillance captured three suspects breaking the front door, running inside directly to the different displays, and shattering the glass, placing items into backpacks, and exiting approximately 30 seconds later. Once the alarm was activated the suspects fled on foot.
Five (5) pistols, a revolver, and $2,000 worth of miscellaneous jewelry including silver bracelets and rings were stolen.

Business Burglary
October 27, 2023
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a business burglary case.
On 09/18/23 at 0415 hours, a burglary alarm was activated at Shoreline Ebikes in Sarasota.
Upon deputies’ arrival they located a smashed hole in the glass that was used to reach in and unlock the front door. Surveillance video captured a suspect taking two Riese & Muller electronic bicycles. The suspect passed one of the bicycles to another not pictured suspect who was outside wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt. Both suspects fled west towards Siesta Drive.

Unsolved Death

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has identified female skeletal remains that were found in 2007 in Sarasota County. The sheriff’s office is seeking information from anyone familiar with the victim, Jeana Burrus, or her husband, James Burrus.
On February 6th, 2007, the skeletal remains of a female were discovered buried in a shallow grave in a wooded area of Ashton Ct. in Sarasota. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death remained cold until November of 2022, when the SCSO, working in conjunction with DNA Labs International Inc., utilized current advancements in DNA testing and genetic genealogy to make a positive identification.
The victim, identified as Jeana Lynn Burrus, was determined to be 39 years old at the time of her death. She resided in the 6200 block of Pauline Avenue in Sarasota with her husband and son, James Burrus, Jr. Jeana was unemployed. Her husband was employed at a local body shop in the 5600 block of Sarah Avenue in Sarasota. Her son attended Gulf Gate Elementary School between 2005-06.
The investigation into Jeana’s death was further complicated as she was never reported missing by family, and her whereabouts had not been questioned. The couple resided in Citrus County, Florida and Frederick, Maryland, prior to relocating to Sarasota County. The SCSO is asking anyone who may have known either Jeana or James Burrus or has information regarding her death to please reach out.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stolen credit card case.
On 12/10/22, the pictured unknown subjects purchased approximately $3,000 in merchandise using stolen credit cards at Best Buy on Cattleman Rd in Sarasota.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fraud case.
On 12/8/22, the pictured unknown subjects entered Chase Bank on University Pkwy in Sarasota, and attempted to open an account with the victim’s personal identification. They were in possession of a fraudulent California DL and a fraudulent Capital One Visa card.

Vehicle Burglaries

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Colonial Oaks area.
On 11/24/22, unknown suspects were seen attempting to and entering vehicles in driveways off Black Oak Court. The suspects were described as light skinned males wearing hooded sweatshirts. A light-colored sedan, possibly a gold Mercury Grand Marquis, with a landau vinyl top was observed driving slowing down the street as suspects ran alongside it.

On 07/2/22, the pictured unknown female subject burglarized a residence on Granada Blvd in North Port. A large toolbox containing various power tools and hand tools was taken.

Motor Vehicle Theft
October 21, 2022
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case involving high end vehicles stolen from Siesta Key.
On 10/14/22, three high end vehicles were stolen from Siesta Key in Sarasota County. All the vehicles have since been recovered, but the identity of the suspects is not known. A 2019 silver GMC Yukon was seen traveling with the stolen vehicles.

On 10/4/22, the pictured female used four counterfeit $100.00 bills at the Golf Galaxy store located at 143 N. Cattlemen Road, Sarasota. She purchased a Bushnell Patriot V5 Range Finder.

Fraud
October 14, 2022
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fraud use of credit card case.
On 09/25/22, the victims credit cards after she dropped her purse in the parking lot of Philippi Estates Park in Sarasota. The stolen cards were used by an unknown female at the Apple Store and Sunglass Hut at the University Town Center Mall to purse two Apple computers and sunglasses.
